Hurricane Dorian – Park Closures

Advisory: Storm Closure and Park Assessment Update – September 10, 2019

The department appreciates patience from our visitors as we work to complete assessments and remediate any damage from Hurricane Dorian. Visitor and Staff safety is our top priority.

Some of our parks will re-open on Wednesday Sept 11, 2019. We ask that visitors use caution and avoid areas that staff have blocked off where a safety risk is present.

Camping Parks

Staff have completed their assessments of our camping parks. Whycocomagh and Graves Islands Provincial Park will be open for business as normal on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The following camping parks will be closed until at least Friday Sept 13, 2019 while clean up continues:

Battery
Cape Chignecto
Dollar Lake
Ellenwood
Five Islands
Mira River
Porters Lake
Smileys
The Islands
Thomas Raddall
Valleyview

The following camping parks have extensive damage to the infrastructure and will require a longer time frame to be opened, as such they will be closed until at least Friday September 13, 2019 with a further update occurring Thursday afternoon.

Amherst Shore
Blomidon
Caribou-Munroes Island
Rissers Beach

Day-Use Parks

Staff have assessed a significant number of our day-use parks. Any day-use parks that are deemed safe by staff will be opened, please contact the local Lands and Forestry Office with specific questions.
