RCMP release:
Victoria County District RCMP continues to seek the public’s assistance in locating 80-year-old Richard Mahoney, who was last seen on July 18 on Jessica Wong Ln. in Baddeck.
Since July 18, ten Ground Search and Rescue teams from Cape Breton, Cheticamp, Colchester, Pictou, Sheet Harbour, Strait, East Hants, Eastern Shore, Inverness, and Spring Hill have conducted an extensive search in the area near where Mahoney was last seen, and in associated areas around Baddeck and Sydney. The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables provided helicopter services and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association provided a drone team for aerial searches. RCMP Police Dog Services were involved throughout.
The search, which has involved an estimated 2,000 volunteer hours and has covered more than 100 kilometres of forest, trails, shorelines and roads, was suspended on the evening of July 21. However, Victoria County District RCMP will continue to collect new information and leads, and the search may be reactivated if further details become available to investigators or searchers. There is no indication of criminality at this time.
Richard Mahoney is described as 5-foot-8 and 140 lbs. He has grey hair and blue eyes, and a dark bruise on his right elbow. He may be wearing dark coloured shorts, a white and blue plaid or checkered shirt, and moccasin style shoes.
