Monday, July 29, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – HRM citizens are advised that due to structural and aesthetic repairs being performed on the base of the North is Freedom sculpture located in front of the Halifax North Memorial Public Library, the steel portion of the artwork will be removed from its existing location and safely stored offsite.
The existing base will be removed and replaced with a new one that will also be treated with a tinted sealant to prevent deterioration of the concrete and to improve HRM’s ability to maintain the artwork. The timeline for these upgrades to be completed is yet to be determined, however HRM is working cooperatively with its contractor and the artist to ensure the artwork is attended to with the utmost care and respect throughout this process.
HRM has already installed lighting at the sculpture to increase its visibility and beauty at night as part of this project.
HRM regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by this work.
