An Upper Granville man is facing child pornography charges after the RCMP searched a home in Upper Granville.
On July 12, 2018, the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Upper Granville and arrested 29-year-old Joshua Aaron Evans without incident. ICE received assistance from the RCMP Technological Crime Unit, RCMP Special Tactical Operations and Kings District RCMP.
Evans is charged with Accessing Child Pornography, Distribution of Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography, Failing to Comply with Probation Order and Failing to Comply with Prohibition Order. He has been remanded and is scheduled to return to Annapolis Royal Provincial Court on August 1.
In Nova Scotia, it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Children and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s national tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
