Urban forest street tree pruning – Henry and Vernon streets

Monday, March 3, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – As part of the implementation of HRM’s recently adopted Urban Forest Master Plan, street tree pruning on Vernon Street between Pepperell Street and Jubilee Road will resume tomorrow (Tuesday, March 4).

Work on Henry Street between Cedar Street and University Avenue will also begin tomorrow. Street tree pruning on both streets will continue until Friday, March 7.

We are now into the third month of our pruning schedule. Several hundred trees have been trimmed and a large number of dead limbs have been removed that could have caused serious harm if left unattended. This pruning project is also completely “green”, with all the branches being further processed through a woodchipper to then be redistributed this spring along HRM paths and trails.

Vernon and Henry streets will be open to traffic, however there will be temporary lane closures and parking restrictions while pruning takes place. Pedestrians may also experience some delays due to temporary sidewalk closures.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed when passing through the work area. Some temporary delays may occur and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes. HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience these delays may cause.
