Monday, February 17, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – As part of the implementation of HRM’s recently adopted Urban Forest Master Plan, street tree pruning on Vernon Street between Pepperell Street and Jubilee Road will begin Tuesday, February 18.

Street tree pruning will also begin on the 18th on Preston Street between Watt and Pepperell streets. Weather permitting, work on both streets should be completed by Friday, February 21.

HRM is now into the second month of the pruning schedule and a large number of dead limbs have been removed that could have caused serious harm if left unattended. This pruning project is also completely “green”, with all the branches being further processed through a woodchipper to then be redistributed this spring along HRM paths and trails.

Vernon and Preston streets will be open to traffic however there will be temporary lane closures and parking restrictions while pruning takes place. Pedestrians may also experience some delays due to temporary sidewalk closures.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed when passing through the work area. Some temporary delays may occur and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes. HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
