Urban forest street tree pruning – Walnut and Vernon streets

Monday, Feb.

24, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – As part of the implementation of HRM’s recently adopted Urban Forest Master Plan, street tree pruning on Vernon Street between Pepperell Street and Jubilee Road will begin tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 25).

Work on Walnut Street between Jubilee Road and Coburg Road will also begin tomorrow. Tree pruning on both streets will continue until Friday, Feb. 28.

We are now into the second month of our pruning schedule and a large number of dead limbs have been removed that could have caused serious harm if left unattended. This pruning project is also completely “green”, with all the branches being further processed through a woodchipper to then be redistributed this spring along HRM paths and trails.

Vernon and Walnut streets will be open to traffic while work is being done. However, there will be temporary lane closures and parking restrictions. Pedestrians may also experience some delays due to temporary sidewalk closures.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed when passing through work areas. Some temporary delays may occur and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes. HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience these delays may cause.
