Vacancies for Agencies, Boards, Commissions

Office of Kelly Regan, MLA

Dear Friends:

Nova Scotia is launching a spring recruitment campaign to fill positions on various boards, agencies and commissions — or ABCs, as we call them. I thought you might be interested in a position, and wanted to pass this information along to you.

The boards, agencies, and commissions are broken down into two categories, adjudicative and non-adjudicative.

Adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions have a quasi-judicial function. They review evidence, make findings of fact and law, and make decisions affecting the liberty, security, or legal rights of people. Members must apply legal, sound professional and technical principals for decisions. Examples of adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions include: Workers Compensation Board, Tuition Appeal Board; Review Board Under the Criminal Code, Farm Practice Board. The application deadline for adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions is May 25.

Non-adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions make financial, regulatory, business, or policy decisions or recommendations to government. Examples of non-adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions include: Workers Compensation Board; Gaelic College Foundation Board of Governors; Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. Applications for non-adjudicative agencies, boards, and commissions are welcome anytime, with assessment of applications to begin on May 18.

Applicants are assessed on skills and qualifications and the needs of the individual agency, board, or commission.

To see the list of positions and for more information, please visit www.gov.ns.ca/exec_council/abc . You can also contact the Executive Council Office at 902.424.4877 or toll free at 1.866.206.6844 if you have any questions.
