Van Vs BMX Cyclist In Kearney Lake area

At 8:05 pm west members responded to Kearney lake road at Grosvenor road to a report of a 14 year old child striking a van with his BMX bicycle.

The youth was travelling south on Kearney lake road on the east sidewalk heading towards Grosvenor road.  The van was travelling north on Kearney lake road turning right onto Grosvenor road.  The cyclist drove into the driver’s side door of the van smashing out the window.  It appears the cyclist was travelling quickly along the sidewalk and failed to see the turning van.  The youth was not wearing a helmet at the time and received a cut to the back of his head. Injuries are not life threatening.  He will remain at the IWK overnight.  No charges are expected.
