Pig out on a vegetarian take on an old favorite. Eating vegetarian meals (even sometimes) isn’t just good for your health, but it’s also good for the environment. It takes a lot of energy to produce the meat that makes it’s way to your table, and even if you make one day a week a meatless day you’re doing something good for yourself and the environment.
I will warn you though precious blog readers, a lot of veggie options do contain a lot of sodium, so you do need to be careful that you’re not eating a ton of it. These vegetarian “pigs-in-a-blanket” are more so a treat or party food recipe than an actual meal suggestion.
I saw similar posts on pinterest for Halloween, and it sparked my interest. Like my board reads “I want to make that” I really did want to make them! However, I don’t eat red meat or pork, so I thought mhm what can I do instead? VEGGIE DOGS DUH!
So when I was having some friends over and one of them is a vegetarian I thought it was the perfect chance to give my brilliant idea a go! I never want people to feel left out because of food choices and I also secretly really wanted to see if these would work.
One package of veggie dogs
One package of crescent rolls (low fat)
Cheese slices (optional)
Dipping sauce of choice (I like mustard)
Preheat oven 350 degrees
Cut veggie hotdogs in half
Wrap (cheese if you want it), and the crescent roll around the veggie hot dog, and place on a cookie sheet (lined with parchment paper) fold side down.
Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcook, as the veggie dogs will become rubbery.
