On Friday October 21 at 3:43 a.m., officers responded to the area of North Street prior to the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge for a report of a car that hit the median and a temporary work sign. The car is described as a grey Mazda 5 and was last seen heading north on Gottingen Street with front end damage. Officers patrolled the area but were unable locate the vehicle.
At 6:18 a.m., officers responded to assist Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency with a vehicle fire in a parking lot in the 3000 block of Barrington Street. Police noted that there was significant damage to the front end of the car, which was a grey Mazda 5. It is believed that this is the same vehicle involved in the earlier reported crash and it was later determined that this car is a rental vehicle. Video was obtained from the area which showed a car enter the parking lot at 3:47 a.m. and a fire later started in the car. No one could be seen in the video or leaving the area. Patrol and a K9 member searched the area but no suspects could be found.
