Victoria Park Adventures

This may be the longest blog entry I’ve ever posted.  The majority of it is pictures.  Loads and loads of pictures taken from our hike today at Victoria Park.

Yes, today we had a hike planned with Holly & Dean to the lovely Victoria Park in Truro, NS.  It’s about an hour and fifteen minute drive from our place but well worth it.  I whipped us up some power packed pancakes for breakfast beforehand– oatmeal spelt, topped with caramelized apples with cinnamon.   They were kinda chewy but filling.

We arrived at the park around 10am and it was still pretty empty.

Radio warned us the UV Index was superhigh today so we all lathered up on the sunscreen pre-hike.

The boys, ready to go!

This is one of my favourite parks in Nova Scotia.  The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and there are kilometres and kilometres of trails to explore.

As you’ll see, the trails are well groomed and there’s lots of boardwalks, steps and log railings.

Speaking of steps,  near the beginning of the park is the famous “Jacobs Ladder.”

Not for the faint of heart.  It’s like a crazy Stairmaster.  Except you can’t turn it off! 😉

Holly making her way to the top.

175 steps in total.  My heart was pounding!

Made it to the first Falls.  So peaceful & relaxing.

And the second Falls was near by…

I think the way the bridges weave their way through the forest is so neat!

A cool looking rock staircase.

A few pieces of nature… wildflower.  No idea what it is.  Anyone have an idea?

Duckies.

Swampy goodness. ;)

These are some tall trees!

We spotted a deer when we were walking the Vibert Trail.

You can see her better here.

After 2.5 hours of hiking I happily collapsed on the shaded, grassy picnic area.  You know my sneakers were coming off!  The toes needed to breathe. 🙂

While Holly and I relaxed, the husbands went back to the car to retrieve the cooler.  Thanks guys!

Picnic time!  Turkey, ham & cheese on whole wheat. This tasted SOOOO good.  I was really hungry.

Plus carrots & almond butter mix for dipping.

Life is good.

Well folks, that was my holiday weekend.  It’s been wonderful and I don’t want it to end.  I hope yours was as great as mine.

In case you missed a post, here’s what I was up to:

To all my American bloggies, hope you’re enjoying all the 4th of July celebrations – Happy Independence Day!
