Video: Thanks to Mel Hennigar, a communications assistant currently working for Dalhousie University and the team in the Communications and Marketing Department we have started a new partnership with the University's Communications and Marketing Department in which we bring you a new program called 'Video Expert'. In recognition of African Heritage Month 2011 we present Wanda Thomas Bernard who has a long and distinguished career in the field of social work. Dr. Bernard Thomas has been working with the Dalhousie University School of Social Work since 1990 and since 2001, has held the position of Director. Recently,
Dr. Thomas Bernard has co-authored a book titled Race and Well Being: The Lives, Hopes and Activism of African Canadians. The video discusses the physical impacts sustained racism can have and how this needs to be recognized more formally in order for it to be remedied. Dr. Thomas Bernard also speaks about the importance of strong communities and mentoring as a way to help reduce the negative health impacts of racism on the African Canadian population.
