EMS responded to a two vehicle accident on Purcell's Cove Road on March 12, 2011. One man was taken to hospital after a near head-on collision, where the jaws of life were needed to free him from his vehicle. Witnesses speculated the vehicles were traveling at least 50km/h at the time of impact. The cause of the accident is under investigation, and Purcell's Cove Road was closed for some time as investigators examined the scene.
