It has been a real struggle to decide on a high end neutral palette during the Sephora VIB sale!
By the look in the picture, you already know which one won.
To be fair, the lineup was impressive to start, and pricing fought hard too.
– tarte Tartelette palette ($44/ CAD53, 0.636oz/ 18g) – CAD83.33/oz
– Kat Von D Shade + Light eye contour palette ($46/ CAD55, 0.6oz/ 17g) – CAD91.67/oz
– Marc Jacob The Lolita Style Eye Con ($59/ CAD71, 0.24oz/ 6.8g) – CAD295.83/oz, and
– Viseart 01 Neutral Matte palette ($80/ CAD80, 0.85oz/ 24g) – CAD94.12/oz.
Kat Von D palette was definitely a tight second, but Tarababyz’s glowing review was very persuasive.
01 Neutral Matte was the only Viseart palette in stock at the time, but neutral and mattes are music to my ears as I age lol.
Was it worth the price? Well yes and no.
Yes because the quality on these eyeshadows is remarkable for matte finish. They blend so easily that I sometimes forget they are matte. Lasting power is great too.
And no because of the similarity on how a few shades show up on me. See the fist reason for that here.
Cannelle has a stronger peach undertone than the rest. Beige has a hint of pale pink.
Sable has less white pigment than Ivoire, but on, the difference is hardly noticeable.
I am not complaining about the pigmentation though. Canelle is great as transition and the other 3 wear well on the brow bone.
On to the next four.
Chocolat has the best pigmentation, a warm plum.
Brique and Taupe have similar tone, with Brique leaning more red and Taupe more brown (more brown than taupe unfortunately).
Cafe looks more like Cafe au Lait (coffee with milk) to me lol.
And the last row.
Charbon is a charcoal grey, can be built up pretty dark but is still not black.
Same reason for that no answer above: similarity. Souris has the weakest pigmentation among the 3. The undertones (purple on Cendre and brown on Tabac) are more distinguished when built up.
Overall, I am happy with the quality of the eyeshadows and do think they are worth the money. Just wish for better variety in colours on my skin tone.
