Volunteers help RCMP spread message

Halifax District RCMP, along with members of the RCMP Citizens on Patrol, will be conducting foot patrols in communities between now and Christmas in an effort to promote “Operation Hawkeye.”

On Saturday, December 2, as part of the RCMP Holiday Crime Prevention strategy ‘Operation Hawkeye’, officers and volunteers will be patrolling the parking lots of business’ in Eastern Passage and Cole Harbour. They will be handing out theft prevention flyers reminding people to keep valuables out of site and always lock their vehicles.

Beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers and police will patrol the following areas:

Eastern Passage – Briarwood Dr.

Riding Dr.

Cole Harbour – Walmart/ Superstore – Cole Harbour Rd.

Sobeys / Canadian Tire – Forrest Hills Parkway

Sobeys Panavista – Main St.

Halifax District RCMP is asking residents to take your keys and valuables out of your vehicles and lock the doors when you get out. RCMP is also reminding residents the importance of reporting any incidents of theft from vehicles. If thefts are reported, it will enable the RCMP to increase patrols in areas that are being targeted by thieves.
