Walk So Kids Can Talk – Thousands of walkers will be sending young people a strong message of support and courage by being part of a movement to Break the Silence on Mental Health.

Hi, my name is Breanna Pottie and I am a program staff at Prospect Road Community Center.

As program staff I get to work directly with the children and youth from the community. I am devoted to making your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews smile. To see kids laughing and having fun is a sign to me that I have done my job. On Sunday, May 1st, I will walk for them! I am participating in the Walk So Kids Can Talk, a walk to support Kids Help Phone and mental health awareness.

Research shows that while the majority of mental disorders are very treatable, only a fraction of young people receive any type of professional mental health care. By raising just 100 dollars I can help eight young people connect with a support service in their community.

I am walking on behalf of Prospect Road Community Center to help break the silence on mental health and make sure every child can live happy lives. If you would like to pledge I will be around the center until May 1st collecting pledges. When you pledge you’ll be helping Kids Help Phone continue to provide the immediate support and hope that kids in your community and across the country need and deserve – today, tonight and tomorrow. Kids Help phone is a charity that receives no core government or United Way funding and relies on critical funds raised by the Walk.

If you are interested in pledging please contact me at breanna.pottie@gmail.com. If you are interested in participating in the walk or would like more information please visit www.walkforkidshelpphone.ca. Please show your support by pledging, give a voice to those who are too shy and help break the silence on mental health!

THANK YOU!
Breanna
