RCMP officers began investigating in an effort to determine whether shots had been fired.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., RCMP officers received a call of a shooting that had occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier at the same motel on Hwy. 2. RCMP officers learned that a man had shot at a woman and her vehicle. She was uninjured. A second woman, who had been waiting in the first victim’s vehicle, was injured as a result of the gunfire. All parties then fled the scene.

RCMP officers later located the victims at a hospital in Truro and, confirmed that one victim, a 30-year-old Truro woman, had suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and the other, a 29-year-old Truro woman, was uninjured. RCMP officers then learned that the suspect was 52-year-old Darren Trevor Jackson. An emergency alert was issued at approximately 11:10 p.m.

RCMP officers from Pictou County District, Cumberland County District and Millbrook Detachment, and, the Truro Police Service, began assisting with the search for Jackson. The investigation and search continued overnight, and there were no further reports of violence.

On October 16, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the emergency alert was cancelled as investigators determined there was no immediate threat to public safety given the targeted nature of the shooting.

Later in the day on October 16, Jackson’s vehicle was located on Arthur St. in Truro, and subsequently seized.
