Water Advisory – Lake Thomas, Halifax Regional Municipality

A motor vehicle accident Wednesday, Jan. 14, resulted in a small amount of furnace oil being released into the roadside stormwater system near the west of Lake Thomas, Halifax Regional Municipality. Lake Thomas is between Waverley and Fall River.

Halifax Water and first responders have successfully contained the release and cleared the storm system.

Although the risk is low, there is potential that a small amount of oil from the spill may have entered the lake.

The Medical Officer of Health advises people drinking or using the water to take all necessary precautions to ensure their water is safe.

If people notice a change in the smell or taste of their water, they should cease using the water immediately and have it tested.
The Medical Officer of Health also reminds residents they should not use untreated water for drinking purposes.

Residents should contact the Department of Environment’s regional office in Bedford if they have questions or need information. The phone number is 902-424-7773.
