Water main break creates large hole, closes part of Herring Cove Road

Halifax Regional Police are currently assisting to divert traffic at a road closure near the intersection of Dentith Road and Herring Cove Road, Halifax.

A water main break has caused a large hole in the road. The Herring Cove Road is closed in both directions between Dentith Road and Sussex Street.

Motorists can detour via either Sussex Street or Dentith Road to the Old Sambro Road to avoid the closure. Crews from Halifax Water are currently working on the repairs.

From Halifax Water:

Halifax Water crews are on-site working to complete an unplanned water main repair near 358 Herring Cove Road, Halifax.

Water service will be temporarily shutting down 358 Herring Cove Road to the end of the water system in the community of Herring Cove. Customers in this area may experience low water pressure or a temporary loss of service during this repair.

There is stop-and-go traffic in the work zone. Experienced traffic control personnel will be on-site to manage traffic flows. Sidewalks remain open.

Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes. Motorists are also reminded that speed fines double in work zones.

We apologize for any inconvenience this necessary infrastructure improvement work may cause.
