Water Street bike lane getting new protection

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that new protection features will be added to the existing Lower Water Street bike lane as part of the Street Improvement Pilot Project.

Bollards and planters will be added over the coming days to create a safer, more comfortable cycling experience for those cycling on Lower Water Street between Terminal Road and Duke Street.

Line painting will begin on Sunday, Nov. 8 and installation of bollards will begin the week of Monday, Nov. 9. Crews will be on site intermittently between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. over the coming week.

The Street Improvement Pilot Project includes temporary features designed to improve the safety and comfort of those walking, rolling, cycling and driving.

These features are expected to remain in place until at least the winter of 2021.
