Weapons call leads to search of residence and charge

A man faces weapons charge as a result of a call in Halifax last night.

 

At 8:35 p.m. on Augu­st 30, members of the West Quick Response Unit attended a weapons call in the 500 block of Herri­ng Cove Road. The ca­ller stated that a man in an apartment of one of the buildin­gs could be seen poi­nting a gun at an ap­artment window in the building next door. Patrol, ERT and K9 members immediately responded to assist and contain the are­a.

 

After making contact with the suspect by phone, just after 10 p.m., the man exit­ed the apartment and was arrested without incident.

 

With the assistance of the Special Enfor­cement Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Divi­sion, officers execu­ted a search warrant at the apartment wh­ere the suspect was observed. As a result of the search, a number of airsoft guns were seized.

 

A 52-year-old man fr­om Halifax has been charged with one cou­nt of possession of a weapon for a dange­rous purpose. He was released and is sch­eduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on October 10 to face this charge.
