Weekend Bike Access Pilot Program – Point Pleasant Park

Wednesday, June 14, 2017 – The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting cyclists to enjoy Point Pleasant Park on Saturdays and Sundays during the 2017 summer and fall seasons.

For years, bicycles were only permitted in the park during weekdays. The Weekend Bike Access Pilot Program will temporarily lift these restrictions, allowing more people to enjoy Point Pleasant Park this summer.

During weekends and holidays, cyclists must use the designated multi-use bike trail only and, as always, are not permitted to take their bikes off-trail.

The pilot program will run from Saturday, June 17 to Sunday, October 29, 2017.

Point Pleasant Park is here for everyone to enjoy and the municipality ask cyclists, pedestrians and pet owners to respect how each group uses the park to ensure everyone has a positive experience. Park access for non-cyclists will not change during the pilot program. Park rules will be updated during the pilot program and enforced by Municipal Compliance staff.

An extension of the pilot program will depend on participation rate by cyclists, as well as how well it’s received by park users. Municipal staff will be conducting a full review of the program upon its conclusion.
