Weekend police checkpoints result in multiple charges, hundreds of vehicles stopped

Halifax Regional Police ramped up traffic enforcement over the weekend, setting up proactive checkpoints across Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford in an ongoing effort to curb impaired driving.

Officers stopped 556 vehicles during the weekend operation, resulting in one arrest for impaired driving after a motorist blew over the legal limit of 80 mg% blood alcohol concentration.

Another driver received a seven-day licence suspension after registering a blood alcohol level in the warning range, between 50 mg% and 79 mg%.

Police also charged one person for driving with a revoked licence and issued six summary offence tickets for various Motor Vehicle Act violations.

The checkpoints are part of Halifax Regional Police’s continued focus on traffic safety and keeping impaired drivers off local roads.
