Weekend Wrap-up: August 9-10, 2014

Aug-9-10

1. The Northern Lights Lantern Festival is a day of fun and creativity for all ages, where old friends run into each other and new friends are made. The festival is a celebration of the vibrancy and diversity of Halifax’s North End.

It’s a community festival in the truest sense where everyone is welcome. It takes place on Saturday at Merv Sullivan Park!

2. Happy Birthday Gus! Gus the Gopher Tortoise is turning 92! The Museum of Natural History will host two birthday parties on Sunday at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm. Don’t miss this event filled day as they celebrate with everyone’s favourite Gopher Tortoise!

3. The second annual Children’s Festival will be held in Victoria Park on Saturday! There will be face painting, balloon animals, bouncy castles, story time, an HRM fire tuck and much much more! Enjoy free entry and treats while taking in some family time!

4. Insects come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Stop by the Nature Lab at the Museum of Natural History to Discover Bugs and get a closer look at bees, beetles and more! Explore beetle anatomy, gaze through a microscope and check out insects in action. Learn more about our insect friends and their important role in nature.

5. Our friends at Sesame Street, who we all know and love, are at the Discovery Centre to teach us all about The Body! That’s right; Elmo, Oscar, Grover, and the Sesame Street gang are all part of a great brand new interactive exhibit. This new exhibit teaches children how the body works, and how to keep it healthy as they hop, jump, run and dance through this hands-on Sesame Street adventure! You’ll pass through the archway and visit the world famous Sesame Street. Visit the 123 Building, Oscar’s Trash Can and discover all kinds of surprises this interactive exhibit has to offer.
