Weekend Wrap-up: Feb 22-23, 2014

1. The annual Skate the Common Marathon at the Emera Oval includes 5K, 10K and 25K skate races, and a 3K sledge race. It is open to participants using any type of skates, or a hockey-type sledge.

2. Alice the Ballet, presented by the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts Alice the Ballet combines elements of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. This adaptation of Alice can be described as a coming of age story where Alice finds herself caught in that space between child-hood and finding her place in the adult world. Alice the Ballet is a 90 minute performance and will be presented at the Bella Rose Theatre!

3. Taking time out of their international touring schedule, Augusto Enriquez, Jorge Chicoy and Avi Garcia, have chosen to come to Nova Scotia from Cuba to participate in the Los Primos 14th Dance for All Ages! And the big news for the dance this year is that Paul Barrett’s 19 piece Back Alley Big Band will be the mambo band for Augusto Enriquez! This is going to be an experience that our community will never forget!

4. Get your summer on! The Halifax International Boat Show returns February 20-23, 2014 at Exhibition Park in Halifax. This event encompasses the largest and most sought after brands of boats and boating equipment in Eastern Canada and it’s all under one roof. The Halifax International Boat Show is the largest boat show in Eastern Canada. Exhibited boats range in size from 6′ to over 30′ and include runabouts, cruisers, motor yachts, sail boats, sailing dinghies, pontoon boats, kayaks, bass boats, inflatables, RIBS and personal water craft. There are exhibits of marine equipment, marine engines, diesel, gas, outboard and inboard, of marine electronics and accessories, of docks and dock builders. The show is a place for boaters to shop and have fun! 

5. As part of the Go Canada Lounge, the Canada Games Centre will be hosting a curling demonstration in front of the pool viewing windows on Saturday, February 22nd starting at 8:30 am!
