Weekend Wrap-up: February 14-15, 2015

Feb-14-16

1. Give the new Central library some love on Saturday! For the little ones there’s a Family Valentine Storycraft on. Listen to a valentine tale and make a cool craft! The teens and tweens can come along and watch The Fault in Our Stars, a perfect Valentine movie!

2.

It’s Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada! Head to The Oval on Saturday for a big day of skating fun! The oval is hosting its first shinny tournament! Plus NHL Alumni will host hockey clinics for youth, there will be a Valentines Day jersey skate and they’ll have LED Screens showing live NHL Games all day long. You can also check out the ice & snow sculptors, The Stanley Cup, have some free food and get a scarf and toques provided by Scotiabank!

3. Head to Ross Farm this weekend to see how our ancestors would have prepared food for the family and savor the aroma of food cooking on the open hearth at Food From the Hearth! Sample some of the dishes too!

4. Elaborate keepsakes known as ‘sailor’s valentines’, originally thought to be a shipboard craft, were actually made in Barbados and sold as souvenirs to homeward bound sailors. Today, anyone can make a sailor’s valentine by collecting ordinary beach shells and gluing them in fancy patterns onto a backing. Come to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic where they will supply the shells and materials needed to create your special sailor’s valentine, or you are welcome to bring your own!

Update: Another arrest in Operation Hancock, Dartmouth, N.S.
