Weekend Wrap-up: June 1-2, 2013

1. It’s Apple Blossom Festival time and a fun family weekend awaits you in the valley. Events include Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo, Laser Tag, Friday night fireworks, Saturday morning parade, Saturday morning family art event, Saturday night Children’s talent show, Sunday Scotian Gold Apple Blossom Family Fun Day – and much more! 2.

 The Halifax Cycling Coalition (HCC) and Mountain Equipment Co-op-Halifax are hosting the 5th annual Open Street Party/Bikefest on Sunday as part of HRM Bike Week 2013! The event runs from at 2 PM to 5 PM on the North Commons. The north side of Cogswell Street will be closed to traffic and open to biking, walking, running, rollerblading or any other activity you would like to do. On the Commons you will find info booths set up about the HCC, MEC, and other bike friendly organizations, plus yoga in the park and other fun activities! 3. To celebrate Recreation Day many HRM Recreation Centres and Multi-District facilities are offering special recreational events free of charge on Saturday June 1st (including skates, swims, yoga, and more)! A great chance for your family to try something new out! 4. You’re invited to a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) open house Saturday & Sunday at Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park! The event will run from 10am-4pm both days. Come and enjoy activities and displays for the whole family; lots to see and hands-on things to do. Admission is FREE. The grounds and buildings will be alive with exhibits and staff experts! 5. Fall seems faaaar away but it’s pumpkin planting weekend at Ross Farm! Come join them for this annual family event here at Ross Farm Museum where you get to plant a pumpkin and pick it up in the fall during the harvest! What better way to celebrate the start of the summer than to join the annual pumpkin planting days at Ross Farm Museum? Bring the children and let them plant a pumpkin seed, then they can return in the fall and harvest their pumpkin!
