June-14-15

1. Halifax’s famous Greek Fest is back for another great year! Come be immersed in all things Greek – food, art, entertainment and more!  Plus be sure to visit the Kids Olympics area – fun for the whole family!

2.

It’s that time of year again! Another summer at The Waegwoltic Club is approaching and they can’t wait to welcome everyone back with a bang at their Annual Open House on Saturday. It’s a free event for everyone (not just members) so it’s a perfect time to come check out the “Waeg” and have some good family fun in the process. New and potential members can come tour our fabulous facilities and get to know the coaches and staff. Register for summer programs on-site, get your Waeg card, sample summer delights from the kitchen and meet the Waeg family! They’ll have lots of volunteers on hand to answer questions and help you get set for a summer of endless family fun!

3. On Saturday, the members of the Atlantic View Trail Association are teaming up with Halifax Independent School to offer the Ocean Breeze Trail Run at Lawrencetown Beach. Imagine running a race, not amid traffic on the streets of a busy city; but amongst local flora and fauna, with fresh, clean, oxygen-rich air and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the Ocean Breeze Trail Run. There is a kids 2k run, the Zephyr!

4. Prostate Cancer Canada’s Do it for Dads Walk Run is a fun, family-friendly event, hosted 9am on Father’s Day at the Canada Games Centre. The event raises awareness and funds for the leading cancer affecting Canadian men and the families that love them. This annual event brings together communities across Canada in support and celebration of the men in our lives. Funds raised by the event will support research that will uncover better diagnostic and treatment options and will help provide comprehensive support services for the 1 in 7 Canadian men living with prostate cancer.

5. Switch Dartmouth encourages people to enjoy Dartmouth in a whole new way by closing a selected route off to vehicular traffic from 12:00pm – 4:00pm on Sunday and opening it up to walkers, runners, bikers, in-line skaters, strollers, dancers and much more. The Planning and Design Centre and the Dartmouth Business Commission are working together to make this years event even more successful than last with a number of activities available for the public!

6. Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! is Canada’s most amazing street hockey tournament and outdoor hockey festival that’s coming to the Halifax Commons this weekend. Each event involves closing over 1km of street, and involves the operation of 20 to 50 separate “street rinks” with games running on each rink at all times throughout an entire weekend! Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! tournaments feature hundreds of teams and thousands of participants and include separate divisions for both genders, all skill levels, and all ages.
