Bluegrass! Polar Plunge! Kids Carnival! These things, and a brief look forward to March Break, are all you need to know about this weekend, Urban Parents.
1. It was such a successful Bluegrass Brunch during the In the Dead of Winter Festival that the IDOW Society is bringing on another one! This time at the Local on Gottingen with their well-reviewed food and great prices, bring the whole family to see The Franklin Brewery Boys from 12-3 on Saturday. Cover is $5.
2. Register to be one of those wild ones or watch all the frozen folks plunge into polar conditions in support of the Special Olympics! On Saturday, people will be freezin’ for a reason in the man-made pool in Grand Parade. Practice your plunge because the best two who dare to dive into said chilly ridiculousness will win lunch with the Mayor. The 12 o’clock cannon is the cue to cannonball.
3. On Sunday from 1-4, The MSVU Fountain Play Centre in the Rosaria Multipurpose Room will be hosting their 16th Annual Kids Carnival! If you have littles, it’s the place to be on the Bedford Highway, admission is $3 per child and children under 2 receive free admission! There will be face painting, concessions, bouncy castles, balloon animals, and the HFX Mermaids. That’s right, there will be flipping mermaids.
4. We have put together a briskly detailed list of over 10 March break camps in Halifax and area. March 13-17 will be upon us before we know it, so if you were meaning to sign some kids up for some day camps and haven’t decided on academic or active, artsy or dancy, theatrical or technological, or haven’t yet committed to a price point between $89 and $349, allow us to help!
