1. I Love Local Hfx Open City is back! By popular demand, Open City will happen on Saturday all across this great peninsula that we call Halifax. There are over 140 businesses participating with loads of fun things for kids at Discovery Centre, the museums, Woozles, the Art Gallery and more! Many downtown restaurants are doing back door takeout for a minimal charge, a good opportunity to try some new tastes! It is also an open house at the Museum of Natural History so stop in there while you’re out for a rare opportunity to visit the generally closed areas! 2.

Saturday is Freak Lunchbox Candy for Kids Day! On this day, all of the proceeds of their bulk candy sales will be donated to the IWK Health Services! Help them break their record of $4686.00 from last year. 3. The Nova Scotia Sea School in partnership with the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will host a ceremony on Saturday May 11th on the Halifax Waterfront in celebration of the re-launch of the vessel ‘Dorothea’. ‘Dorothea’, the Nova Scotia Sea School’s (NSSS) first expedition boat was built in 1994 by 15 teens. The project’s success launched 18 years of nautical adventure within Atlantic Canada. Learn the game of tennis to start playing with your family this summer. A great kids event. Tennis Pros on court running drills and games. Prizes, BBQ and tennis! 5. Do your kids want to be an Artist For a Day? This is a really fun day, designed to showcase everything that NSCAD is about. There will be dozens of hands-on activities, including weaving, pottery, tile-making, printing, painting, life drawing. Also a parade with Samba Nova, a bicycle tour and a noise orchestra. 6.
