Weekend Wrap-up: May 4-5, 2013

It sounds like a great sunny weekend ahead so I hope you all get to enjoy it! 1. Saturday is Free Comic Book Day! A day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores! There are 4 participating stores in Halifax so get out and about and collect what you can! 2.

Friday and Saturday is the Giant Book Sale at Alderney Landing, an annual feast of amazing books. This year’s offerings are mighty thanks to larger than normal donations. Bring plenty of cloth shopping bags! 3. It’s Earth Rangers to the Rescue at Discovery Centre on Saturday! The Kids’ Conservation Organization, is dedicated to providing environmental education to children and inspiring them to take action. Come by to meet a few of their animal ambassadors, speak directly to their trainers, learn all about their natural history, habitats and so much more! 4. The Children’s Wish Foundation is having a Princess dress sale on Sunday. It is open to ticket holders of the Princess Tea Party from 12:30 to 1:30pm and then to the public from 1:45 to 3:45pm at the World Trade and Convention Centre! 5. Be a part of Canada’s largest walk, Walk so Kids Can Talk, to support child and youth mental health and well-being. Head to Citadel Hill on Sunday morning to show support for every young person who is reaching out to Kids Help Phone in emotional distress, whether they are struggling with bullying, dealing with a mental disorder, feeling anxious about school, or even experiencing violence or aggression.

Urban Parent

Urban Parent (formally HRM Parent) is a an online community for families living, exploring and playing in the Halifax area. We connect local parents with events, information, services, products – and each other. Our online community of local parents is growing every day and we’re so grateful for all who are a part of it. Our Facebook and Twitter “inbox” questions have been known to cause some wild conversations, unite families with similar needs and most importantly let many parents know they are never alone! Urban Parent is run by local parents, for local parents. We know what a struggle it can be to find local information and resources, so we’ve done the work for you in the hope that it has made your day a little easier and maybe even given you some cool parent points with the kids! Have an idea for a blog? Need more information? Want to advertise with us? Just send us an email at info@urbanparent.ca we’d love to hear from you.
