Weekend Wrap-up: Nov 23-24, 2013

1. CELEBRATE THE FESTIVE SEASON BY SUPPORTING LOCAL ALL WEEKEND LONG! The Annual East Coast Momma Collective Holiday Fair will be uniting our community once again in support of our local Mompreneurs at this festive and fabulous event! The two full days, with free admission, plus one Starry Night Market, from 5-9 Saturday, will be filled with over 90 talented and inspiring local artisans and business owners.

Complete your holiday shopping for your loved ones at this fun event, featuring locally-made home decors, jewellery, art, paper crafts, knitting, crocheting, accessories, sweets, books, clothing, and MORE! Something awesome for everyone on your list! Come sip Sissiboo Coffee while your children get their Holiday photos done at our great Holiday Photo Booth with Partridge Photography. Can’t seem to get your hands on that Oodie Bum diaper, Bridge Brewing Company beer, or batch of chocolate Baker’s fudge? Well then, the ECMC Fair is your TICKET to the incredible local businesses and Mommas we all love. Charity Raffle of goodies with proceeds donated to the IWK’s Reproductive Mental Health Services. Holiday “stockings” for the 1st 50 guests on Saturday Night and Sunday, FREE admission, wicked tunes, and lots of love to go around.

2. ‘Tis the season…for Miracle on Main Street at The Village Shops in Dartmouth Crossing! Join us from 5:30-7:30pm for caroling, hot chocolate (while quantities last) fireworks and more! Fireworks start at 6:30pm.

3. It’s the 24th Annual Victorian Christmas this weekend from 12 noon–4 pm at the Citadel. Experience the traditions of Christmas as enjoyed by Queen Victoria’s soldiers and their families inside the Halifax Citadel at the 24th Annual Victorian Christmas. See how the troops celebrated the season in the barracks, enjoy a soldier’s version of Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol,” meet Father Christmas, enjoy musical performances – it’s a family tradition!

4. A family show and a lively retelling of the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale. A greedy king locks a young woman in a tower and tells her to spin straw into gold. Is it impossible? Not for Rumpelstiltskin. However, the magical task comes at a price the young lady may not wish to pay. Seating is limited at the Living Room (2353 Agricola St) – roughly 30 people a show. Please reserve tickets at 456-2110. Nov 20 – 30. Shows at 6:30 pm Wed-Fri and at noon on Sat-Sun. Run time approximately 45 minutes. Kids age 6 and up will really enjoy the show, but it is suitable for younger audiences. 

5. 2013 HRM Christmas Tree Lighting! A FREE Christmas event for the whole family! Saturday,  6 – 7 pm Grand Parade, Downtown Halifax Featuring: – Live stage show with Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs – The Big Fish Band – A visit from Santa Claus – Lighting of the Christmas Tree – Fireworks – LED Holiday Light Exchange program The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia will have volunteers collecting cash donations during the HRM Christmas Tree Lighting. The event’s Presenting Sponsor, Westwood, has graciously agreed to match all monies raised! Your donation will help the more than 200,000 Nova Scotians who are currently living with mental illness. Turn your $5 into $10, to help make a difference in our community!

6. Ready, Set, Robotics! Saint Mary’s University will once again be hosting their Robotics Competition at the Discovery Centre on Saturday, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. The engineering students will be competing in a Mars Exploration Mission for their bi-annual competition. The mission will pit teams against each other to determine which robot is the most versatile! Visitors can drop into the Theatre throughout the morning to observe the exploration mission and the techniques used by the students in operating their robots.
