Weekend Wrap-up: October 5-6, 2013

1. You’re invited to the Grand Opening of TANKED! at the Discovery Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Join them for an exciting line-up of activities, program, speakers and events. Their talented interpreters will be putting on live science busking, not to mention the opportunity to make a splash in the exhibit Touch Tanks.

The Once Upon a Tide Touch Tank Show is delivered three times daily – 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30 to ensure visitors have the opportunity to meet over 40 different species that live in the tanks!

2. It’s Atlantic Canada’s First Food Truck Rally on the Halifax waterfront! This will take place during City Harvest on Saturday from 11am-7pm at Sands at Salter. The tasty line up includes The Food Wolf, Nomad Gourmet, Tin Pan Alley Food Truck, Bite Me Urban Diner, Under Pressers, and AMBY’s Eats (from New Glasgow!). Lunch, Supper or both. Fun eats for the whole family! Bring cash!

3. It’s City Harvest! A city-wide open house event where 50+ small businesses from retail to restaurants will open their doors and delight you with special features and great deals. Organized by the I Love Local Halifax group www.ilovelocalhfx.com. Free parking on the waterfront, and a free concert at Parade Square.

4. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Halifax Common, Friends of Halifax Common have organized one big party. From Firday to Sunday they will host 3 days of over 50 events to commemorate the gift of the Halifax Common “to and for the use of the inhabitants of the Town of Halifax as Commons forever,” by King George III in 1763. Sports, performing arts, tours, walks, yoga, circus and so much more!

5. The brand new Ideal Pet Show is coming to Exhibition Park October 4-6 2013 and is co-locating with the popular Nova Scotia Fall Ideal Home Show! This event will offer all the products and services needed for the pet in YOUR home! See demonstrations, features and exhibits including: Pet Food and Nutrition, Pet Health and Medical Services, Pet Apparel, Pet Training and Obedience, Pet Fencing & Gates, Pet Accessories & Tys, Breeders, Pet Beddings & Carry Cases/Kennels, Pet Insurance, Pet Funeral Services, Pet Photography, Pet Boarding/Daycare, Pet Grooming and Animal Rescue/Adoption.

6. On Sunday from 1-4pm join the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers for their annual Open House event. Visit with the horses, enjoy a musical ride performance and more!
