The Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Unit has charged a West Dover man following a child pornography investigation.
On the morning of April 8th, 2015 members of the ICE Unit, with assistance from the Integrated VICE Unit, executed a search warrant on a residence on Middle Village Rd.
Gerald Joseph Cuvelier, 40, was arrested at the scene without incident. Preliminary analysis of devices located at the residence confirmed they contained child pornography images and video.
Cuvelier has been charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography. He was released from police custody on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on July 22nd, 2015.
In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Children and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s National tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
