Transportation:

  • Halifax Transit buses will follow holiday service hours on Friday. There will be no ferry service on Friday.
  • The Alderney ferry will operate on Saturday and offer holiday service on Sunday. Regular schedules for buses and ferries will resume on Monday. For holiday schedules, bus, and ferry routes, visit the Halifax Transit website.

Groceries:

  • Sobeys and Atlantic Superstore will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
  • The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market will be closed on Sunday.
  • Gateway Meat Market and Luminate Wellness Market will be open all weekend.
  • The Local Source Market’s Windsor Street location will be open regular hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Agricola Street location will be closed on Friday, and both locations will be closed on Monday.

Costco and Walmart will be closed on Friday and Sunday.

  • Some drugstores will be open but with limited hours. Check their websites for details.

Liquor and Beer:

  • The NSLC will be closed on Friday and Sunday, with no delivery available all weekend. Check their website for information on local agency stores.

Malls:

  • All major malls will be closed on Friday and Sunday.

Halifax Public Libraries:

  • All branches will be closed on Friday, Sunday, and Monday.

Waste Collection:

  • Solid waste collection services will not operate on Friday. Curbside collection regularly scheduled for Friday will take place on Saturday. Curbside collection services scheduled for Monday will not change.
  • The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
  • The municipal recycling plant and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Friday and Sunday.
  • The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday and reopen for regular operating hours the following week on April 10.

Parking:

  • On-street parking meter spaces are free on Friday and Monday.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following municipal program and service level adjustments for the upcoming Easter long weekend from Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1.

Solid Waste Collection and Facility Hours

There will be no garbage, organics or recyclables collection services on Friday, March 29.

Curbside collection normally scheduled for Friday, March 29 will instead occur on Saturday, March 30. Residents are asked to place materials curbside prior to 7 a.m. on collection day to guarantee pickup, ensuring items are contained and secured from wildlife.

Regular curbside collection services will resume on Monday, April 1.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed on Friday, March 29 but will be open on Saturday, March 30 for regular business hours.

The Household Special Waste Depot in Bayers Lake will be closed on Saturday, March 30 but will be open on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halifax Transit Bus & Ferry Services

Halifax Transit buses will be operating on holiday schedules on Friday, March 29. Please note there will be no ferry service in operation on Friday, March 29.

Buses will be operating on regular weekend schedules on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.

Alderney ferry service will operate on its regular weekend schedule on Saturday, March 30 and provide holiday service on Sunday, March 31, with the first trip departing at 7:30 a.m. Woodside ferry service does not operate on weekends or holidays.

Buses and ferries will operate on regular schedules on Monday, April 1.

Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services:

Most municipal recreation facilities will be closed on Friday, March 29, Sunday, March 31 and Monday, April 1 (with the exception of Sackville Sports Stadium, which will be open on Monday, April 1).

Residents are advised to call ahead to their respective facility for operating hours and program information as weekend hours may vary. Contact information for municipally operated facilities is online.

Customer Contact Centres

The 311 Customer Contact Centre will be closed on Friday, March 29, and Sunday, March 31. Urgent calls can still be reported during the holidays. 311 will be open on Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will resume regular operating hours on Monday, April 1. Residents can reach 311 by phone, or by emailing contactus@311.halifax.ca

Parking

On-street paid parking will be free on Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1. Residents are reminded to always abide by posted signage and other safety regulations, including ensuring they are not blocking crosswalks.
