WHEN STARS ALIGN

It was a strikingly cold morning, the kind of cold that gets into your bones, and never leaves.  The air was wet, and a dense fog had just rolled over the water. To most, this would be a deterrent for a photo shoot, but for pros Alexa and Luke of North By North Photography they were not only ready and willing to conquer it all but happy to do so.  With a trunk stocked full of camera gear, props, and hot coffee and Timbits in hand we left the city behind us and crept our way into a beautiful oceanside cottage off just Lawrencetown Beach.

As both a fan and friend of Alexa and Luke we are always trying to escape our deadlines and due dates of living the freelance hustle to do some just-for-fun shoots. Finally, the stars aligned (haha bad pun) and we were able to sync our schedules and just do what we love and get creative. I love working with Alexa and Luke because I know that no matter what the obstacles we will ultimately create magic together. They are do dedicated to what they do that nothing they touch is short of perfection. Also, I just like to hang out with them

We shot a couple different looks on this cold January day, and for the first look, I knew I wanted to shoot my new Gap jeans because I’d basically been living in them since I got them. If you would have asked me a couple years ago if I’d thought I’d be wearing jeans with beaded stars all over them I’d probably deny it. However, if this blog has taught me anything I’ve learned to never say never when it comes to style. There’s something playful and fun about these jeans and I kind of don’t care if some people aren’t into them.

The older I get the more I dress for myself rather than the other way around.

Did I mention I scored them 75% off?? I mean how do you pass those up? I actually tried these jeans on before Christmas, and then waited to find them on sale after and I just had to have them! but because they are a bit busy I also wanted to keep the rest of the look super basic.

Because they are a bit busy I also wanted to keep the rest of the look super basic. And what’s more basic than a white turtleneck, and Adidas Allstars? Truth be told I actually had these same shoes in high school, so they instantly make me feel nostalgic for my clumsy teenage days. I definitely still feel like that same girl, sure I might be a little less shy with my personality than I once was, but I definitely still love to play with fashion.

I’ve never really been afraid of wearing the “wrong” thing because I’ve always just worn what I like and never apologized for it. I remember my first day of Junior High and my floral embroidered bell-bottomed jeans complete with ankle slits down the sides, all expertly paired with white platform sneakers. I’m not going to lie I kind thrived on knowing that I had my own look.

FEATURED ITEMS

Jeans, Gap.

Turtleneck, J.Crew (similar here and here)

Shoes, Adidas Allstars via Soft Moc

Would I wear that look now? Not likely, but again I’m not ruling anything out.
