Tuesday, September 6, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality wants to get voters talking and sharing their thoughts on the municipal and school board elections this fall through the first ever #halifaxvotesbecause social media contest.
Residents are invited to submit videos and images sharing their thoughts on why they vote in the municipal and/or school board elections. The contest starts on Tuesday, September 6 and runs for six weeks, with weekly prize winners selected by random draw. A grand prize recipient will be chosen by drawing from the previous five weekly winners on Friday, Oct. 14, the day before the election (Oct. 15).
All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 9 in order to be eligible for prizes.
Weekly prizes include event tickets, gift certificates, transit passes and other promotional items such as T-shirts and water bottles. The grand prize winner receives a tablet. To submit your entry, participants must use “#halifaxvotesbecause” and “#contest” in a post via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Posts can be images or brief videos stating “I vote because…”. Participants are encouraged to be creative and respectful with their entries.
All entrants must be 19 years or older and a resident of the Halifax Regional Municipality. There is a limit of one entry per person.
The municipality wishes all participants luck and thanks those who help spread the word about the upcoming municipal and school board elections through this new social media initiative.
