Winter Sport Fishing Weekend Feb. 15-16

Anglers can fish lakes and rivers from Yarmouth to Cape Breton without a licence during the winter sportfishing weekend, Feb. 15-16.

Residents and non-residents can fish for rainbow, speckled and brown trout, white and yellow perch and chain pickerel in specified lakes and rivers throughout the province.

All bag limits and other regulations apply.

“The winter sportfishing weekend is a wonderful opportunity for all Nova Scotians to enjoy this popular outdoor sport,” said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell. “I encourage Nova Scotians to take advantage of this licence-free weekend.

“Beginners and seasoned anglers alike can enjoy a great outdoor experience, but I encourage them all to ensure they enjoy the outdoors safely.”

In collaboration with Pictou County Rivers Association and the Antigonish Rivers Association, family and youth sportfishing events will take place Saturday, Feb. 15 at Gairloch Lake, Pictou Co., and Gillis Lake, Antigonish Co.

The storm date is Sunday.

Winter sportfishing season opened Jan. 1 and closes March 31.
