Winter Storm Update and Service Impacts – Monday, March 4

dav

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates and impacts to municipal services as a result of the current weather event.

Snow Clearing
Crews are currently active with a focus on priority streets and sidewalks. Equipment has been deployed to ensure emergency access is maintained on residential streets and to address priority catch basins in flood prone areas.

Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution if required to commute. If driving, please reduce your speed and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear highly visible clothing.

The municipal overnight winter parking ban will continue to be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. overnight.

Please note: In snowfalls greater than 30 centimeters or in blizzard conditions, more time may be needed to complete street and sidewalk clearing. The same exception may apply when there are rapidly changing weather conditions. Crews will continue working until all streets and sidewalks are clear and safe.

Recreation Programming
Most municipal recreation facilities will be closed for the remainder of the day due to weather and road conditions. Please call ahead to your respective facility for information on program cancellations and closures.

Solid Waste Collection
The curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables normally scheduled to occur today has been delayed in some locations. If collection has not occurred by 5:30 p.m. this evening, crews will return tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5. Collection services can begin as early as 7 a.m.
