Winter Storm Update and Service Impacts – Wednesday Feb. 13

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following updates and impacts to municipal services as a result of the current weather event.

Snow Clearing

Crews are currently addressing snow that has accumulated on all street and sidewalk surfaces. The weather system is expected to intensify this morning, delivering a mix of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain before moving out of the area later this evening. Strong winds with blowing snow are expected and white out conditions may be present in some areas.

Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution if required to commute this morning. If driving, please reduce your speed and maintain a safe distance between vehicles. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear highly visible clothing.

Residents are reminded to remove any personal property obstructions that may be located in the right-of-way.

Please secure off-street parking today as vehicles can be ticketed and towed under section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act, at any time, if obstructing snow removal. Pleasethink before you park.

Halifax Transit

Several Halifax Transit routes are currently on a snow plan. Please follow @hfxtransit on Twitter for all service updates.

Recreation Programming

Many recreation facilities will be closed today and programs cancelled. Please call ahead to your individual facility before heading out.

Solid Waste Collection

Solid waste collection is still scheduled for today. Residents should expect delays.

Municipal offices

All municipal offices in the Halifax region are closed for the day.

Essential services, 311, winter operations and Halifax Transit will maintain operations and adjust schedules and staffing resources as necessary, due to weather conditions. In the event that transit service will be disrupted, the public will be advised with as much notice as possible to minimize any inconvenience.

Safety is the municipality’s top priority. Please visit Halifax.ca or follow @hfxgov on Twitter for all storm-related updates
