Woman assaults police officer during traffic stop

Kings District RCMP arrested a woman in relation to an assault that occurred in Waterville.

On August 16, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Kings DistrictRCMP members were conducting traffic enforcement on Hwy. 101, near Waterville, when they observed a speeding vehicle. An RCMP officer completed a traffic stop of the vehicle and proceeded to issue a written warning.

When the RCMP officer served the document, the driver, a 23-year-old Avonport woman, became irate. She lunged out of the vehicle and physically assaulted the officer. A struggle ensued, which led to the arrest of the woman. The passenger of the vehicle, a 28-year-old Yarmouth woman, had made previous attempts to calm the driver.

The driver was transported to the Kings District East RCMP detachment and later released from custody. She will appear in Kentville Provincial Court on October 25 at 9:30 a.m. to face a charge of Assaulting a Peace Officer.
