Police have charged a woman with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit today.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 118 near Wright Avenue in Dartmouth. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 155 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

A 21-year-old woman was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the woman was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle she was driving was seized and impounded. The woman also received a ticket for failing to provide proof of insurance.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
