Woman charged with theft from Credit Union, Antigonish, N.S.

Antigonish RCMP have charged a 39-year-old Lower South River woman following an investigation of internal theft from the Bergengren Credit Union. In November 2013, the Bergengren Credit Union contacted Antigonish RCMP after receiving a complaint from a Bergengren Credit Union member regarding a suspicious transaction in their account.

In November 2013, the Bergengren Credit Union contacted Antigonish RCMP after receiving a complaint from a Bergengren Credit Union member regarding a suspicious transaction in their account.

A criminal investigation commenced and RCMP identified numerous fraudulent transactions. Further investigation revealed that several thefts had occurred over a two-year period from ten different accounts, all of whom are senior citizens in the community.

Stephanie Moran-MacDonald, a former Bergengren Credit Union employee, has been charged with Theft over $5000, Fraud over $5000 and Uttering a Forged Document. She is scheduled to appear in the Antigonish Provincial Court on April 30th, 2014. The investigation is continuing.
