A 41-year-old woman was found deceased inside a tent on Barrington Street early Wednesday morning.

Halifax Regional Police say officers responded at approximately 2:30 a.m. to a report of a sudden death in the 2500 block of Barrington Street. Police located the woman inside a tent at the scene.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service has ruled the death not suspicious. In cases described as not suspicious, police indicate there is no evidence of criminal involvement. The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

Police remained on scene for several hours Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing, though no foul play is suspected. The woman’s identity has not been released.

Municipal information lists the Barrington Street green space as one of the remaining designated encampment locations in the city, with a proposed capacity of 12 tents.

Halifax Regional Police extended condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.
