Women Making Waves! Lawrencetown Beach welcomes new surfers

East Coast Surf School held their first annual women’s only surfing clinic on Friday July 21, at Lawrencetown Beach.

East Coast Surf School, owned and operated by Nova Scotia’s first and only professional surfer, Nico Manos alongside his wife Jill have been teaching surf lessons at Lawrencetown Beach for the last 12 years.

Lawrencetown Beach is well known for its consistent waves, and the surf did not disappoint.

According to their Facebook event page, “This main objective of this fun surf event is to encourage more women to try surfing and hopefully get more women in the water surfing on a regular basis.”

The event saw 50 participants of varying skill levels take to the water. Some only required a “brush up” of their skills, and others were first time surfers.

Instructors walked students through all aspects of the skills needed, starting on land with demonstrations and practice, then moved into the water for the real deal.

As suggested, this event is likely to continue.

This event is open to all women 12 years of age and older.
