Women’s History Month to Honour Nova Scotia Women

Nova Scotians are being encouraged to honour women who have made a difference in their lives during Women’s History Month in October.

The theme this year is “Her Story, Our Story: Celebrating Canadian Women.” Each Friday during October, a remarkable Nova Scotia woman will be celebrated.

People will be invited to share stories about female mentors, leaders and volunteers who have made a difference in their lives.

“I have been lucky enough to have had many women in my life who have had an influence on me becoming the person I am today,” said Joanne Bernard, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women. “It’s vital that we celebrate the lives and contributions of Nova Scotia women during Women’s History Month.”

There will be a municipal campaign school for women, and activities to mark the United Nations International Day of the Girl Child on Oct. 11 and Persons Day Oct. 18.

“We will be asking all Nova Scotians to share their stories of women who have made a difference in their lives through our Twitter account and website,” said Stephanie MacInnis-Langley, executive director of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women. “I encourage everyone to tell us how a woman has inspired them.”

Stories can be shared through @StatusofWomenNS or by emailing women@novascotia.ca . Some stories will be featured on the Status of Women website during future Women’s History Months.
