Government is recruiting a chief executive officer (CEO) to direct the work of Nova Scotia’s new apprenticeship agency.
The CEO will work directly with industry, helping to create more opportunities for apprentices and give better access to training.
“The CEO will be critical to the success of the agency and apprenticeship in Nova Scotia,” said Kelly Regan, Minister of Labour and Advanced Education. “The successful candidate will work with industry to ensure the new agency is responsive to its needs, creates more opportunities and keeps our skilled workers here in the province.”
The recruitment team is being chaired by Labour and Advanced Education deputy minister Duff Montgomerie and supported by government and industry representatives. The team hopes to have a CEO named by this fall.
The department issued a job description, and will work closely with the recruitment company Venor Search Group of Halifax. The company will help promote the opportunity, assess if individuals qualify, and act as a local contact.
The criteria for the job include proven leadership abilities, and experience working with a board and government.
Nova Scotia’s apprenticeship system is vital to getting people ready for jobs in the skilled trades. A separate agency for apprenticeship will be launched this summer that will increase industry input, improve the number of apprenticeship opportunities in the province, and help apprentices complete their journey to certification more quickly.
