Working With People Half Your Age

Part of the problem of being an old man working in restaurant is that the generation gap between you and your co-workers grows exponentially each day.
I work at a place where 95% of the people I work with are at least 10 years younger then me.
They say that being around young people keeps you young. This is true, sometimes.
Othertimes, being around these irresponsible, lazy, self-entitled, helicopter parented group of 20 somethings drives you insane.
This past weekend I literally had to deal with a full staff of employees who did not want to work a single hour.
Well, I shouldn’t say that. There was one 20 year old who worked her tail off.

The rest of them? Wow.
“I need to get off early because I’m going out with friends.”
“I have to get up early for my second job.”
“I’m going home to Toronto so I need to get all my shifts covered.”
“I don’t do doubles.”
“My irresponsible boyfriend mistakenly booked himself for work so I have to take care of his child from another woman because he’s left us with absolutely no other option.”
“I’m tired and don’t feel like working.”
“I’m just not feeling it.”
“Do I really have to close?”
“Why can’t she take that table?”

Unbelievable.

Literally a 4 day barrage of a bunch of spoiled 20 something brats with absolutely no dedication to their job nor any concern for other employees (me) who have to work their ass off to make up for their lack of discipline and responsibilty.

But that’s the price you pay for still serving at my age and working with people who are old enough to be your kids, have no respect for you whatsover, and think you need to “chill out”.
