World Oceans Day Comes to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Nova Scotians are invited to celebrate the province’s deep relationship with the wide ocean blue on World Oceans Day, Friday, June 6, at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

“Nova Scotians’ strong connection to the sea has greatly impacted our culture, and continues to do so,” said Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Tony Ince.

“I thank the team at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and all of the Oceans Day exhibitors for doing a wonderful job reminding us of our rich ocean heritage.”

World Oceans Day at the museum brings together more than 30 exhibitors from across the province exploring the ocean’s role in the lives of Maritimers. Participants will be able to learn about model shipbuilding, meet a mermaid, and help paint the Halifax Art Boat.

“The ocean is our greatest resource. It drives our economy and shapes our culture,” said Waterfront Development president and CEO Colin MacLean. “The health of our oceans is critical for our future. The Blue Flag flying overhead assures those who visit and enjoy our waterfront that the highest international environmental standards are being met.”

Admission to the Maritime Museum will be free all day with festivities from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. CSS Acadia will also be open with a Blue Flag-raising ceremony at noon with Waterfront Development.

The museum is at 1675 Lower Water St. For more information, visit maritimemuseum.novascotia.ca or call 902-424-7491.
